The American Media Are a Bunch of Weenies

The American Conservative's Jack Hunter and First Principles' Jed Donahue, respectively, on what cable news, which I was able to watch this past weekend, sees as the only story worthy of debate in our Republic — Weinergate and Other Trivialities and What Weiner Was Right About.

That's not right; there were also people screaming at other about a case involving a mother accused of killing her own daughter. Reminds of back in '94 when, after returning from a year in South America as an exchange student, I was snowed in NYC and my fellow citizens were glued to gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Lorena Bobbitt trial.

I've never seen so many puns in the local press since this story broke. It is very interesting to see how people respond to this story; apparently sophomoric humor is the order of the day when it comes to private parts. Do we ever get out of high school?

You are right, Josh, to point to the bread and circuses nature of the media coverage; especially when so much more important issues are going on all around us (war, economy, energy, pollution, etc).

As someone who actually lives in NYC and spends a good deal of time in his district, and who has a somewhat serious interest in affairs of state, what is most interesting to me is what is / will be going on the ground politically.

The world can laugh - or even cry - at this; but it ultimately will come down to the voters in the NY 9th Congressional District to decide.

In the meantime, and there after, we still have to figure out how to fix civilization.

Agreed; let Weiner's constituents decide.
