Two From Tōhoku

Sent by a reader, one of "a huge wall once deemed a mayor's expensive folly and now vindicated as the community's salvation" — How one Japanese village defied the tsunami — and another on what he says "would never fly in the US" — Such as nuclear giant Tepco covered up margins in series.

So, hats off to the late Mayor Kotaku Wamura, and heads off with the officials at Tepco. Moral of the stories? As Bill Kauffman would say, "Think locally, act locally, live locally."
