Chinese Empire?

Tom Engelhardt analyzes "why, a few months back, the specter of China as this country’s future enemy once again reared its ugly head," and argues that "if predictions were to be made and trends projected into the future, it might be far more reasonable to predict a cautious Chinese government, focused on keeping its populace under control and solving confounding domestic problems than an expansively imperial one" — China as Number One?

Writes commenter Liberaltarian, "For anyone seriously worried about China, I strongly recommend watching the following documentary on China’s ghost cities" — China's Ghost Cities and Malls. "China is a paper tiger. America has so many legitimate concerns and worries let us focus on them, not on China."

Though I do think China's neighbors have legitimate cause for concern, fears in the West seem conflated. If China is ever tempted to send troops over to occupy foreign countries, all they need to do is look at what such actions did for the US. Our 'empire' is the envy of no one.

"Our 'empire' is the envy of no one." Very succinctly put. Why are we the only ones not to get it?
