Tolstoyan Greatness

"Regardless of how the Bolsheviks and Communists shamelessly exploited him for propaganda purposes, Tolstoy's stories, long or short, and whatever his confused political views, represent the best in the Western canon, with precious few peers," writes Stephen Hand — For Tolstoy and Russia, Still No Happy Ending.

I'm currently reading War and Peace, the last remaining pinnacle of Russian literature I have to scale, and I've said before that it was his tome The Kingdom of God Is Within You, which I stumbled upon at the 1988 Anarchist Survival Gathering in Toronto, that led me back to my baptismal faith.
