Pride Goeth Before the Fall

News that a monstrosity, "exactly a mile in height, is to be built" — Babel tower of 21st century? Saudi to build world’s tallest building. The Skyscraper Index suggests "that the world's tallest buildings have risen on the eve of economic downturns," and Mark Thornton provides the Austrian School analysis — Skyscrapers and Business Cycles. Does the "world’s tallest building" foretell the greatest economic downturn?

This is a stupid idea.

It may, though, have more to do with jealousy of "those camel-thieves in Dubai who stole the show," than with narcissism. The former is much more like the KSA.
