Notes on the Catholic Faith

  • "Moved by love for the Church in China, by sorrow for the trials you are undergoing and by the desire to encourage you, we deepened our knowledge of the ecclesial situation by means of a panoramic vision of the organization and life of the ecclesiastical circumscriptions in your country" — Vatican message to Chinese Catholics.

  • "Until the last breath, I will continue to serve Jesus and this poor, suffering humanity," said his country's martyred minister of religious minorities — A Lesson of Holiness from Remote Pakistan.

  • David Kerr reports "a stinging attack upon modern Church music" — Top choral director calls modern Church music 'ecclesiastical karaoke'. "There is a glaring lack of sympathy for the heritage which should be the bedrock of worthy sacred music in today's Church."

  • One of the more misleading headlines of late — Ex-private school boy reveals sex abuse at St Stanislaus in Bathurst. One doesn't expect to read that the claimant "has been accused of making up lies to claim compensation from the church" in the lede and then later that "he now admits [his claims] are false."
