Muhammad's Message to Christians

This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them. Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray. Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).
Dr. Muqtedar Khan calls the above "a charter of rights without any duties," which "clearly protects the right to property, freedom of religion, freedom of work, and security of the person," and " inspires Muslims to rise above communal intolerance and engenders good will in Christians who might be nursing fear of Islam or Muslims" — Muhammad's promise to Christians.

Zenit has an interview with Camille Eid that completely refutes Mohammed's 'benevolence' towards Christians and Jews.

She writes:

"The Quran distinguishes between Christians and Jews, and other unbelievers. Christians and Jews are called the 'People of the Book,' or the books if you want -- the Gospel and the Torah. Sometimes in the Quran, Christians are described in a very positive way. The Christian monarch and priests pray. But, during the second period in the Prophet’s revelation, Christians are described as unbelievers and [it's said they] should pay the 'Jizya,' the tax necessary to be protected in an Islamic society. There seems to be a contradiction in the book itself. That is why we have a liberal and a violent Islam. The violent Islam is a result of the second revelation that occurred during the last reign of Mohammed and as a result the current Islamic societies state that the events of the second revelation should be followed and not the previous revelations, which are more tolerant."

Camille Eid is a "he" and no "she," and almost certainly a Lebanese Maronite. Asking Lebanese Maronites for their thoughts on Muslims is a bit like asking Hatfields about McCoys; at least one claim does not hold water.

Thanks, I should have thought "Camille Pissarro" not "Camille Paglia."

You're welcome.

It's a frog thing.

We have far more than enough history to know the Muslim message to Christians when Islam is in power. And what it is not, is the nonsense Dr. Muqtedar is Khan is selling.

LTG, with what respect is your due, you probably couldn't buy a clue if Walmart had them on special.

Mr. Xavier,

My shopping at Walmart??? That is a low blow.

As for a clue, fortunately, as I noted previously, such detective work is unnecessary because we have reams of history to go by which dispel the illusion that Mohammads words were anything more that a sop for fools .

LTG, your rhetoric and the established facts, as related by Roman Catholic missionaries, cannot be reconciled, at least not without copious acid.

It was, by the way, the bombers of Her Britannic Majesty's Royal Air Force, without whose bombing the Wahhabi-supporting Saud family would have been toppled, and Saudi Arabia fallen back under the sway of less strident Islamic theological schools.

The British monarchs, by the way, are / were the spiritual leaders of the Episcopalian church, which has given us presidents like Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, the Roosevelts, Ford and Bush père.

Shouldn't you be getting your knickers in a twist over them?

One guy screaming against a wall of Islamic tradition set squarely against him... not very encouraging.

Also not very encouraging is Mohammed's inconsistency. If I recall correctly, this particular bit of benevolence is countermanded by the violence demanded in the later writings of the prophet.

I was under the distinct impression that his offer of protection only applies to the monastery of St Catherine which gave him shelter when he needed it, and who still has this actual text in their keeping.
