Demographic Decline and Debt

Ordered Liberty on Jordan Bailor's pointing out that "the dearth of births America has undergone in the last three decades is having profound consequences today" — Population control and the debt crisis.

I'm utterly convinced that the debt crises in Europe is greatly attributable to declining birth rates. The neo Marxists got it wrong: the fiscal crisis of the west back in the 70s was due to the crisis of the mass production economy but do to the shrinking population brought on by the welfare state.

Perhaps ifg the welfare state were reduce, people might be inclined to have more kids. Just for protection in old age but because the kids also represent the best economic stimulus.
