God Bless the Fukushima Fifty
The Bushido these heroes (who number far more than fifty) are displaying is awe-inspiring — Fukushima 50 battle radiation risks as Japan nuclear crisis deepens / ‘Fukushima 50’ risk lives to prevent meltdown / Fukushima's nuclear plant workers walking into certain death by radiation.
"Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan virtually ordered the crews on the suicide mission," saying, "You are the only ones who can resolve a crisis. Retreat is unthinkable." Indeed, but the lives of these fifty men are worth far more than all the electricity this plant has produced over the years.

The valor displayed by these men, and by the Japanese people as a whole, in this disaster is nothing short of awe-inspiring. For all its faults, Japanese culture and Japanese civilization are functioning the way an intact society operates. And the nobility and self-sacrifice that are on display is truly magnificent.
Indeed. No less awe-inspiring is the humility of this remarkable people, graciously accepting aid from Korea, for example. God bless Japan.
Indeed. A culture of honor that can graciously seek assistance when needed. I certainly hope that America responds generously and warmly to the needs of the people of Japan.
