The King's shilling?
We appear to be "seperated by a common language" as Oscar Wilde said. The word "shill" is a new one for me, only having learned it in the past few years, online of course.
On a related note, I liked your recent post on the differences between your South African English and that of our common Mother -- Trainers, sneakers, plimsolls and tackies.
