Two From the Grey Lady on the Paranormal

  • "We still have our ghosts, we still have black magic," says Todsaporn Jamsuwan, quoted in this article reporting that "[f]ar from abandoning traditional beliefs in the paranormal, Thailand is harnessing the forces of technology and modernity to reinforce them" — Thais Look to the Supernatural.

  • "It’s craziness, pure craziness," says Ray Hyman, an emeritus professor of psychology, of the news that "[o]ne of psychology’s most respected journals has agreed to publish a paper presenting what its author describes as strong evidence for extrasensory perception" — Journal’s Paper on ESP Expected to Prompt Outrage.

    Traditional beliefs?

    I believe in cell phones.

Ghosts are only paranormal to those who have not been around them.

Ghosts are still paranormal to me, because I have not been around them, and I pray it stays that way, but they are not to my students, who come from the top 1% of Korean high school graduates, at the top university in Korea, the third in Asia, and 28th in the world.

I have heard numerous ghost stories from our dormitories, where many students, tragically, have committed suicide. I have also heard ghost stories from students' military service.

I used to dimiss my cousin's ghost stories because she was an ignorant southerner, or so I foolishly thought; it's harder to dismiss stories from Ph.D. candidates in Physics.
