Sino-Vatican Cold War

"Honestly, I would say that with these [episcopal] elections we are taken back to the time of Mao Zedong and the foundation of the Patriotic Association."

  • Francesco Sisci says that the "looming schism of the Catholic Church in China after Beijing gave a green light for state-sponsored worshippers in the Chinese Patriotic Association to pull further away from the Vatican... could provoke dire international political consequences for China" — China feels tug of religious war.
