"The Gold Standard of Modern Science"

"The case against peer review" presented by Daniel Engber — Quality Control. "Despite its authority and influence over every aspect of the scientific community, no one has ever shown that peer review accomplishes anything at all."

A colleague told me of a Wiki-style alternative to peer review being floated around. The idea is so crazy it just might work. When I first heard of Wikipedia, I ranked it among the stupidest ideas I had ever heard; now, I recognize that despite its flaws, it's the best we've ever come up with.
