Wisdom From an Italian Cab Driver

"It is a good-looking person’s responsibility to leave the house looking good so that all the slobs will have something nice to look at, a bright spot in their otherwise mundane day," quoted by Delphina Boncompagni Ludovisi — Flirty Baristas, Amorous Exes, Freeloading Friends, and Feeling Fat.

I agree that this sort of "discarded image" (in the spirit of C. S. Lewis) is something we should strive for, as I regularly proclaim to people that "beauty will save the world."

Yes. Sadly, this will be interpreted in the wrong way. I remember an Italian priest's positive comments on beauty contests being ridiculed by the secularist/puritan Anglo-American press.

Maybe we should all strive to be more Italian. Maybe there's a reason they call it the Roman Catholic Church.
