Am I My Brother's Debater?

A report on a "90-minute 'conversation' before a small group of journalists... about whether truly civilized societies require religions and the ethical structures they provide" — Christopher and Peter Hitchens debate religion against brutal backdrop. An earlier posted link to a 1999 debate in which the Brothers Hitchens "discussed the United Kingdom, Ireland issues, the European Union, and Britain's relationship with the U.S." — Brothers Debate.

The premise of the debate sounds incomplete.

The premise ought be, "do civilized societies require truth of that which is seen and unseen, and the ethics that flow from revealed truth and natural law?"

Of course the question that would have to be asked then, if we say yes is, "is our society civilized?"

I think we all know the answer to that one, and if one doesn't, he or she need only read a newspaper.
