Who Will Command the Gulags of the Second Vermont Republic?

I was remiss in not mentioning the monstrous visage that desecrates the flag of the Second Vermont Republic as seen on the Dennis Steele for Governor of Vermont website alluded to in my earlier post today — Dennis Steele for Governor! Long Live the Second Vermont Republic!

Strange that "a nonviolent citizens' network and think tank" should honor a gulag comandante who said, "We don't need proof to execute a man. We only need proof that it's necessary to execute him." Christopher Ketcham, in the article quoted, hailed the birth of "a leftism that rejects big government, that seeks not a take-over of the federal center but an end to centralized power altogether," while, presumably, also hailing a man who presided over a distastrous command economy.

Mr. Ketcham disparaged what he derided as "the gun fetishism, the blind rage, the know-nothingism" of the right, while honoring a man of the left who praised "[h]ate as a factor in the struggle, intransigent hatred for the enemy that takes one beyond the natural limitations of a human being and converts one into an effective, violent, selective, cold killing machine." What of your side's "know-nothingism," Mr. Ketcham?

I'm not one to tell a sovereign country whom she should hold as a hero, but as a neighbor from Upsate New York, might I suggest that if you must put someone's face on your flag, and a foreigner to boot, how about choosing a real voice for freedom, who stood against the most monstrous "big government" of our age, and who even honored your great state with his exile? Maybe he wasn't as photogenic as the other fellow, but here he is pictured below:
