Whither the Church in China?

"Two veteran China observers, Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun and Father Jeroom Heyndrickx, have presented opposing views on the direction the Church in China should take with respect to relations with the state" — Observers differ over path for China Church.

The latter "argues that both China and the universal Church are in an 'attitude of dialogue,' which has never happened before" and "says that 'some prophets' inside the Church in China are already dialoguing with the Chinese authorities," whereas the former suggests "that practicing faith within the existing system would entail being part of an independent Church."
