The Miseducation of America

"The fundamental reason why American children are not educated properly is simply because the American people do not want their children to be educated properly," Mark Anthony Signorelli — Self-Esteem v. Standards.

"A near unanimity of American parents regard a school simply as an institution designed for the benefit of their child, and not also for the community as a whole."

In other words, parents have a duty to the community as a whole to academically educate their children for the good of the community as a whole.

If this were true, then conversely the community would in turn have the right to educate those children for it's own good, and while this may be a common enough conception among the illiterate intelligentia, nevertheless, it flies in the face of where the authority to educate inviolably does exist.
