Mainstream Media Misunderestimates the American People

"The conjuring up of Terry Jones, from his justly deserved obscurity, was an act of reassurance for the MSM and its Leftish base," we read a few days ago — The Meaning of the Reverend Terry Jones. "They need to believe that the real America, the America they are attempting to reform and remould, is composed of people very much like Terry Jones."

Today, Charles Glass writes, "If the Reverend Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida has read the great Mencken, he must wonder how he became the first American to defy the Bard of Baltimore’s observation" (that "[n]o one... has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people"] — Thank God for Koran Burnings. [I happened to have this page on my screen when a graduate student from Pakistan, from Peshawar of all places, walked in for his scheduled tutoring, a situation I did not notice until he sat down in front of my computer.]

"His Koran-burning stunt should have been a winner," Mr. Glass explains. "Any country that regards Fox News as a sober reporter of world affairs is ripe for chicanery of any sort. Yet the public didn’t buy it. For the first time in recorded history, someone underestimated the intelligence of the plain people and lost. Sometimes I’m proud of my countrymen, and this is such a time."

Also today, Pepe Escobar writes, "The skateboarder who snatched a copy of the Koran from the grasp of an American self-styled paramilitary Christian leader before he could burn it is among people who are demonstrating that the vast majority of Americans reject Islamophobia" — 'Dude, you have no Koran'.
