Thanks. I always like hearing about geographical oddities.
I never knew such a place as a predominantly Buddhist state existed in Europe, not even the huge section of European Russia that is close to western Asia.
It is very interesting to read about how the Soviets went soft on them to try to draw in Mongolia and Tibet.

I caught a documentary of Kalmykia a few years ago and it stuck with me. Imagine! A Buddhist state populated by people of Mongolian ancestry due South of Volgograd!
Stalin also relocated most of the Koryo-In (Korean-Russians) from the Russian Far East to the Central Asia -stans.
