Strange Bedfellows

Reality tends to do that. The US military budget is simply unsustainable at this time. One of the major problems with our overseas military activities right now is that that they simply are unaffordable given the US budget situation. The military as a whole will have to be drastically cut. This is something, though, that most conservatives and Republicans are simply unwilling to talk about -- sacred cow spending for them, much like the bloated and even more unstainable new health care "reform" law passed by the Democrats is a sacred cow for the American Left.

At the end of the day, I would absolutely love to own a winged unicorn pony. That would be great! I could fly it it around, show it off, I would be the envy of my neighborhood. But it cannot happen. Other dreams -- of global empire, of European-style social programs, of massive aircraft carrier battle groups replicating ad infinitum across the seas -- are equally impossible now. There just ain't any money to pay for it all.
