Our Arab friends used to castrate their African slaves soon after capture, which accounts for the paucity of very dark skinned people in those parts.
One of the best known writers about European exploitation of Africa, Mazroui by name, was the scion of one of East Africa's famous slave trading families.
Thanks for posting this link to Sowell's article. An overlooked part of history -- one that provides necessary context to the entire tragic history of slavery. And one of the real tragedies of that history is that it isn't over yet...
