In the early 20th century, modern art and music scorned adherence to "mere convention"; scientists today seem to be closer and closer to confirming that "mere convention" was developed as a direct response to things hard-wired into the human brain and the universe at large, which would probably explain why so few people actually like modern or postmodern art.
Wikipedia also notes that in 2003, Wiess and Wiess used psychometric and theoretical data to conclude that the Golden Ratio underlies the clock cycle of brain waves.
That appears to have been empirically confirmed by neurobiologists in 2008.
Fascinating. Thanks.
